Motivation

Academic, private, and public sectors are focusing their efforts on reaching the sustainable development goals SDGs, eleven of which are focused on the improvement of mobility. Intelligent mobility is a means to achieve these goals in order to offer sustainable and efficient mobility as well as road safety to the wider public. In spite of academic interest on ITSs and their positive impact on the betterment of transport efficiency and thus quality of life around the world, there are relatively few workshops devoted to the discussion of this type of technology and related implementations and none on an annual basis. WITS is proposed to address this void and is envisaged to provide a specialized meeting for the transfer of scientific and technical knowledge, experiences, research findings, feedback, and to boost strategic cooperation between participants.

Objectives

• To present specialized lectures on technological solutions for intelligent mobility from institutions and research groups from various productive sectors.

• To explore the contemporary opportunities and challenges posed by ITSs as well as insights into exciting advancements in this type of technology.

• To exhibit the real-world implementation of ITSs and explore how they have improved the quality of life around the world.

• To showcase the exciting opportunities ITS has been creating in the fields of data science, network science, machine learning and data mining.

• To display how ITS technology has been impacting the people working in related fields.

• Promote strategic collaborations and networks to join efforts focusing on technical and scientific projects in smart mobility and build connections between researchers for future collaborations.

WITS welcomes original submissions related to, but not limited to, the topics listed below.

Intended audience

This workshop is aimed at researchers from all areas of knowledge who are interested in the design and implementation of intelligent transport systems and is likely to be of most interest to those working in computer science, network science, data science, big data, machine learning, data mining and related disciplines.

Submission guidelines

Authors must submit an original full paper (12 to 15 pages) that has not previously been published. All contributions must be written in English. Authors must follow CEUR styles either for LaTeX or for MSWord (http://ceur-ws.org/Vol-XXX/CEURART.zip), for the preparation of their papers. We encourage authors to include their ORCIDs in their papers. In addition, the corresponding author of each accepted paper, acting on behalf of all of the authors of that paper, must complete and sign by hand an Author Agreement form.

Proceedings will be submitted to CEUR Workshop Proceedings for online publication.

Abstract

The International Telecommunication Union ITU define a smart sustainable city as : “An innovative city that uses information and communication technologies (ICTs) and other means to improve quality of life, efficiency of urban operation and services, and competitiveness, while ensuring that it meets the needs of present and future generations with respect to economic, social, environmental as well as cultural aspects”.

The aim of this Workshop is to present recent results in this area, discussing new methods or algorithms, or applications in different areas including architecture, cultural, tourism, mobility, sustainability, innovation, education, technology, government, among others.

Call for papers

This workshop will consider papers which:

• Develop/implement methods and techniques to make a city smart and sustainable.
• Apply these methods to solve problems related to Smart sustainable cities as required by society or business goals.

Submission

Authors must submit an original full paper (10 to 15 pages) that has not previously been published. Authors should consult Springer’s authors’ guidelines and use LNCS templates, either for LaTeX or for MSWord, for the preparation of their papers.

All submissions will be reviewed by two experts. Authors must remove personal details, acknowledgements section and any other information related to the authors identity.

Proceedings will be submitted to CEUR-WS.org for online publication. Authors of accepted papers have to sign the Author Agreement to Publish a Contribution as Open-Access on CEUR-WS.org. CEUR-WS.org requires authors to physically sign with pencil on paper.

Presentation guidelines

Accepted papers will be presented during the workshop. Authors are required to prepare a presentation of 15 minutes, followed by a Q & A of 5 minutes. In case authors want to present using their own device, they need to make sure to bring the necessary adaptors (HDMI or VGA). All presentations must be given in English.
